S.P.A.R.K. or Solar Powered Auxiliary Relief Kiosk is the signature system of Thrive Projects Inc. It is not a patented technology, but it is what we consider a systems integration of parts sourced locally from Kathmandu, and readily accessible to communities in the developing world.

In the summer of 2015, Thrive Founder Brian Kam worked closely with friend and colleague Danny Iland, a computer scientist at UC Santa Barbara, to assemble the system in the foothills of the Himalayas. Together, they saw this as a simple solution to a big problem, a piece of common knowledge that should be spread to everyone who shares a thirst for learning.

Today, the S.P.A.R.K. system is not just a piece of technology but it is a platform that Thrive uses in educating the members of underserved communities. As the use of S.P.A.R.K. continues to give way to ideas and expansion that enlighten communities, we are reminded of how appropriately it is named.
